Back to his Roots

February 10, 2012

With Lance Armstrong’s two year Federal Investigation finally over, he has now turned his attention to the sport where it started for him…Triathlon.  He is committed to several 70.3 and 140.6 distance races where he hopes to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.

According to the Livestrong website, Lance will be competing this weekend at the Panama 70.3 on Sunday.  There is a very strong field ready to welcome Lance in Panama this weekend, led by uber biker Chris Lieto- it will be interesting to see who puts the screws to who in that duel.  The question with both of these athletes is, “will they be able to throw down 5:45-6:00 miles” like some of the stronger runners in the field.  Matty (Boom Boom) Reed will be ready to throw down in the final leg of the race as will Bevon Docherty, Rasmus Henning, and Paul Amey

Other events he is committed to:

Texas 70.3, April 1

Florida 70.3, May 20

Hawaii 70.3, June 2

Nice, France 140.6

Ironman will be a partner with the Livestrong Foundation in hopes of raising $1 million for cancer research this year.  Ironman will auction off 4 slots to the Ironman World Championships through his foundation.

Lance will be a new intrigue to the sport and many will tune in to see if the 40-year old, 7-Time Tour De France champion can compete with the best the sport has to offer.  My thoughts are that he will be in the top 3, That being said, I still like Lieto to take home the title of this inaugural event.

The question is, how will Lance feel when he gets passed by two Kowals? Ha.
